Paint weathering test

ISO, Accredited Laboratory. Determining how a material or product will react to normal or extreme weathering is a critical process. It provides your team with essential data that will influence how you move forward — by modifying your design or continuing with the existing build.

Our weathering testing gives actionable analysis and provides your team with the vocals sound like tin can data to develop performance-driven products. SinceVTEC Laboratories has earned an international reputation for being a leader in industrial and commercial product test services.

This includes a full-service weathering testing source. As an ASTM-compliant testing service, we adhere to the highest standards to ensure you receive valid data you can rely on — every test and every time. However, testing in an open weather environment is a time-consuming process. Accelerated weather testing lets you understand how your products respond to certain weather conditions.

That can be regular weathering under normal conditions or seasonal fluctuations including heavy storms and cristina o.

mosso*, beatrice venturini*, gianni briante disasters. By accelerating your weathering testing and regulating it in simulated conditions, you essentially get the same climate-response data, but in a much quicker time. Products and materials intended for outdoor use must be designed to withstand harsh weather conditions.

Secondary forces include biological phenomena, sand, salt and air pollutants like chemicals and acid rain. Combined, these weather factors take a toll on outdoor pieces.

Weathering testing before your manufacturing process is excellent insurance against premature and unexpected product failure. Determining how products and their materials respond to normal and extreme weathering is critical. Weathering testing provides your team with essential data that influences how you move forward. That data allows you to modify your design or continue with the existing build.

When the military deploys their systems in extreme weather conditions, they first test the durability at VTEC. That might be by increasing its structural strength or decreasing its water penetration. By controlling parameters and simulating natural weather conditions in our test chambers, VTEC Laboratories significantly accelerates product testing time.

Some of the accelerated weathering testing conditions simulated in the test lab include:. Accelerated weathering testing gives manufacturers significant benefits. This gives your research and design team critical insight to assess any improvements before actual production.Historical Version s - view previous versions of standard. More D This practice is intended to induce property changes associated with end-use conditions, including the effects of sunlight, moisture, and heat. The exposure used in this practice is not intended to simulate the deterioration caused by localized weather phenomena such as atmospheric pollution, biological attack, and saltwater exposure.

Therefore, no reference to the use of this practice shall be made unless accompanied by a report prepared according to Section 10 that describes the specific operating conditions used. Refer to Practice G for detailed information on the caveats applicable to use of results obtained according to this practice. The type and rate of degradation and the performance rankings produced in exposures to fluorescent UV lamps can be much different from those produced by exposures to other types of laboratory light sources.

It is recommended that at least three replicates of each material be exposed to allow for statistical evaluation of results. Significant factors include regulation of line voltage, temperature of the room in which the device operates, temperature control, and condition and age of the lamps.

This practice also covers the preparation of test specimens, and the evaluation of test results. Table 1 describes commonly used test conditions.

Practice G53 has been withdrawn and replaced by Practice Gwhich describes performance criteria for all exposure devices that use laboratory light sources, and by Practice Gwhich gives requirements for exposing nonmetallic materials in fluorescent UV devices.

High levels of ultraviolet radiation, humidity and temperature combine to provide a subtropical environment widely specified for outdoor exposure testing. Atlas has two main Florida sites. Located approximately 33km 20 miles northwest of downtown Miami, in a rural, unpolluted environment, SFTS provides clients with more than 65 years of experience in weathering.

This acre site is utilized by companies worldwide for exposure testing of paints, coatings, textiles, plastics and various other products. Its pristine environment ensures the site high annual total sunlight and ultraviolet radiation, as well as high humidity levels, characteristic of this subtropical region.

The Everglades Test Site is geared toward testing special projects such as full car enclosures, test houses and automotive component evaluation.

Both sites also employ instruments for monitoring ambient temperature and humidity, rainfall, total wet-time and wind speed. Florida's subtropical environment provides static real-time weathering tests of high annual total sunlight and ultraviolet radiation.

High humidity combined with an annual average of over cm 79 inches annual rainfall results in extended times of wetness that ideally typify Florida Direct Weathering Inland DWI. These conditions are particularly suited to the exposure of paints, coatings, and textiles for automotive and construction industries.

The static real-time weathering testing capabilities of AWSG include direct exposure, using fixed or variable angle as well as backed or unbacked racks, indirect under glass exposure for interior materials, and black box exposures for paints and coatings. In addition to weathering, lightfastness and environmental durability testing and evaluations, Atlas Weathering Services Group AWSG offers a wide range of standard and customized test programs.

Our engineers will work with you to design the most appropriate and economic test methods and processes to support you to achieve your goals. Atlas offers a wide range of evaluation and measurement services for our client's specimens during and after the weathering process.

More D It is not possible to establish a precise correlation between accelerated and natural weathering because 1 there are geographical climatic variations, local weather variations, and variations in local pollutants, and 2 the relation between accelerated and natural weathering is material dependent.

Acceleration factors differ between materials as well as between formulations of the same material. Guide G provides guidance regarding this issue. QUV Accelerated Weathering Tester

Accelerated weathering simulates damaging effects of long term outdoor exposure of materials and coatings. A QUV test chamber uses fluorescent lamps to provide a radiation spectrum centered in the ultraviolet wavelengths. Moisture is provided by forced condensation, and temperature is controlled by heaters. No direct correlation can be made between accelerated weathering duration and actual outdoor exposure duration.

However, performance comparisons under controlled conditions of accelerated weathering can be compared to documented performance of the materials and coatings that have experienced extended periods of end use exposure. Testing Procedure: Up to 20 test samples are mounted in the QUV and subjected to a cycle of exposure to intense ultraviolet radiation followed by moisture exposure by condensation.

These cycles would be continued for extended periods of time - up to thousands of hours - simulating even longer periods of time in the real world.

Specimen size: Typically, flat plaques or disks are used for accelerated weathering studies. The standard sample holders can hold one sample 3 x 12 inches 75 x mm or two samples 3 x 6 inches 75 x mm. Depending on size parts may be accommodated. Data: Accelerated weathering provides exposed samples for comparison to unexposed control samples.

Often several exposure times such as, and hours also will be compared to each other.
